Methodological know-how and data management

Currently, the field of redox biology is experiencing revolutionary technological transitions that allow completely new insights into cellular redox biology and the function of thiol switches. Genetically encoded redox probes allow dynamic observations of redox events in intact cells and organisms with much improved chemical specificity and spatio-temporal resolution, redox proteomics allows for large-scale analyses of thiol switch proteins, specific chemical probes facilitate the tracking of oxidative signaling events. The SPP 1710 consortium combines expertise in state-of-the-art technologies in the field of redox biology. Based on this, the SPP aims to contribute to answering central questions of redox biology and the role of thiol switches in a broad range of organisms and organelles in a coordinated and highly synergistic way. The methodological spectrum includes advanced thiol related techniques which are actively developed and optimized by members of the SPP 1710 consortium. These methods make it possible to detect and quantify low abundance redox species and weakly expressed target proteins. Furthermore, the applicants have fundamental expertise in techniques that are not primarily redox-related but are essential for successfully conducting redox-centered experiments. Please find below an alphabetical list of methods as well as an alphabetical list of the SPP 1710 members with their specific methodological expertise.
